A Timeless Message

Leaf Face

Several weeks ago I started asking the Oak tree to pick out an Oak leaf for me to tuck in with my Tarot Cards.  This is the same Oak Tree that birthed a Shaman Stone.  I've affectionately named this Oak tree, Ruffles and Flourishes, (because that's what it sounds like when its leaves are buffeted in a strong wind).  On my way past the giant Oak this morning I stopped to give it its morning hug and tell it how beautiful it is.   Just as I was carefully stepping over its tangled toes, my eye unexpectedly caught the sight of a leaf sticking up and out of its crook.  Interesting.  Yesterday afternoon we had a mini monsoon which was quite unexpected since the weatherman had only forecast isolated showers.  So, one could argue that the leaf blew off the tree branch during the rainstorm and landed in its crook.  I must admit, this is a distinct possibility.  But the way I spotted the leaf was pretty interesting as it acted like a little beacon (hey, I'm here!) and the thought immediately came over me, "Here is the leaf you were asking for."  No other explanation needed.  The minute it caught my eye I distinctly knew that it was not some random act of nature but rather a rational and precise answer to something I had asked for.  Upon viewing this leaf some may call it diseased and riddled with age, mottled and not worth the effort to keep, but appearances can be deceiving.  Isn't it really all about the message, "Ask and You Shall Receive"?

Expect the Unexpected

Cougar: A large cat of the family Felidae native to the Americas

After our morning coffee, ole Grumpy and I finally had time to call the gravel hauler.

We're sitting at the dining room table as ole Grumpy dials the number.   "Hello," the lady answers.  "Hello, we say.  "We're calling to find out if you folks are hauling gravel?"  She replies, "well, sure we do, when did you (silence then a shriek) ..."Randy, turn off that damn noisy weed eater and get over here quick!  There's a critter in the front yard!"

(Unintelligible reply--what the??? we hear way off in the distance)  Again she yells, "Randy, hurry up!  You know, a black and white critter--a skunk!"  (Pandemonium and noise in the background) "I'm sorry, she says to us, "I should have been more professional on the phone."

We all break out laughing.    

We tell her about an incident we had several months back.  We're sitting at the dining room table looking out the window when I head to the kitchen.  Ole Grumpy startles me-- "get back in here"!  You're not gonna believe what's standing on the pool cover! 

I came running over and we looked out the window.  Lo and behold there was a small feral hog standing somewhat precariously on the edge of the pool cover.  You could tell it wasn't happy as it was unsteady on its feet.  Note:  Where there's one feral hog around you know there's got to be One Big Mother nearby.   It turned and ran into the tall grass and instantly was gone.  If you hadn't seen it you would have never even known it was there. 

Then we went on to tell her about another encounter one week ago.      

It was late afternoon and I was coming home from town.  Ole Grumpy was following me.  He got out to unlock the gate and then climbed back into the truck so he was a few minutes behind me.  While he was walking back to the truck I started driving up to the house.  As I rounded the corner by some large trees I spooked two deer.  Nothing unusual.  They took off across the drive in front of me.  But what immediately followed them and close on their heels was something very unexpected.


It sprang up and sailed through the air, with the greatest of ease.  I couldn't tell if it had been laying close to the deer (certainly seemed so) or if it just happened on the scene.  I personally believe it was the former.  I estimated it to be about 80 - 90 lbs, light brown with dark markings on both ears and a long tail that closely matched the length of its body. 

My mind was saying, "that's a cat" but one breed I definitely had not seen around this neighborhood.

Turns out it was a Cougar.  Cougars are excellent stalk and ambush predators and this certainly could account for why it was so close to the deer.

This is the second time I've seen this animal.

The first time I saw it its head was showing above the tall grass so I couldn't see its body but when it stood up  and slowly ambled off into the pines I knew what it was.   

This time it was brazen enough or hungry enough? to be seen stalking its prey in the open.

The moral of this post:  Be prepared.  You just never know what is lurking around.  Calamity and Chaos take no prisoners.  There are predatory animals out there and they don't always happen to be animals.  Always be observant and aware of your surroundings, no matter where you happen to be.     















  

Laugh a Little

First we lost Robin Williams, now Joan Rivers.  These two gifted human beings had something in common-they could make us laugh.  Now, we'll have to learn to laugh at ourselves.

It is time for Obama to step down.   

Obama has now elevated 18 holes of golf to this country’s highest national security issue, superseding taking any time whatsoever to put together a plan for combating a new terrorist threat (ISIS) and one, by the way, Obama was well aware of over a year ago.    

Are you as concerned as I that a President of the United States who took an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States and Americans, can’t be bothered to do either as he is more interested in flying around the country at taxpayer expense in order to play another round of golf?    

That the President of the Free World doesn’t have a smidgeon of a plan to offer to combat ISIS but other world leaders have presented theirs? 

Does Obama even take these threats seriously or are they just an ongoing distraction, another nuisance wreaking havoc on Obama’s endless penchant for playing just one more game of golf?   

           

Because of Obama’s golf hegemony and his incredible lack of leadership, his unwillingness to confront serious problems, Obama is in denial, thus creating a very dangerous precedent, giving the go ahead to those in the world who wish to do us harm.   

    

This country is on a collision course with a very dangerous destiny and one that could have been avoided, if the President of the United States had done his job.  

Obama’s abysmal failure to act or even care about 4 Americans brutally murdered in Benghazi, and the fate of two Americans who were just beheaded (words are meaningless unless followed up by action- everybody knows that) plus a Marine Sgt. who continues to languish in a Mexican prison, is ample evidence that Obama doesn’t consider these issues worth consideration.     

Yes, the White House issued a statement to the effect that the State Department was working the issue with the Mexican government to ensure the release of our Marine but was running into difficulty.   Yeah, right.  But we can invite thousands (millions?) of undocumented illegals into this country with just the stroke of a pen. 

  

Obama wants to be remembered and he will be.  His legacy of remembrance will be a monumental Dereliction of Duty.   

By his unwaivering passivity in the face of another rising terrorist threat, his I can’t be bothered attitude for a United States Marine wrongly imprisoned in a Mexican jail and the whole world witnessing the brutal beheadings of two Americans,  Obama is letting the whole world know who and what he truly is.  

A miserable failure as a president and a miserable and shallow excuse for a human being.
