Back to the Future

Humans have forgotten they were born into Nature and are an integral part of it.

I lived on a farm for about a year helping my grandfather with his sheep herd, growing a garden and feeding the horses then headed to the city to make a living.

In a city, you are cut off from nature, surrounded by concrete and asphalt, traffic and loud noises.   This environment dulls the senses, blocking out awareness and empathy.

I have been raising livestock since the early seventies.   You're pretty much out in nature 365 days a year whether it's feeding, rescuing, doctoring an animal or just keeping an eye out for predators.

You learn that no matter the weather, or that headache you can't get rid of or feeling sick, your animals come first.

Out in nature you are surrounded by meadows and prairies, forests, hollers and valleys and experience all types of weather from dangerous t-storms, freezing rain, suffocating heat and high humidity.

You learn if animals are eating normally then suddenly start chowing down on food, you can expect cold weather coming in; if they are scattered in a pasture and then, all look up and in one direction, something has startled them and you need to investigate.

Being out in nature you find you're able to make friends with your surroundings and I know this sounds crazy, but you actually form friendships with other animals, trees, birds and insects.

You start to gain respect for all that Nature is.  You start to connect with and feel a deep seated rhythm that penetrates your mind and body intent on becoming a part of you.

Something else happens, too -- your sixth sense (intuition) starts kicking in (something you didn't experience in the city) allowing an integral part of you to surface you were previously unaware of.

Civilization has cut itself off from nature as the majority of humans on this planet are all about making money, raising families and you can't do that if you're out riding the range all day.  I understand.

But it needs to be pointed out that maybe, just maybe, many of our problems (drinking, drug addiction, suicide, violence) -- "society's"  problems can be traced back to this neglect of Nature being the reason  we're seeing so many problems today.

This is how we all started out thousands of years ago and I believe it's time for a reassessment of where we are, who we are and where we want to be in the future.

The most important part of this equation is that Nature is G-d and G-d created Nature.

If Nature is G-d and G-d created Nature and we are part of Nature then it all makes sense.

Maybe the answer to our problems is staring us right in the face.
