Ole Glory ~ The Flag that Represents Freedom |
Just a little over two-hundred and forty three years ago, British colonialists (soon to be Americans) who had fled Great Britain found themselves under the tyrannical boot of King George III.
After the Seven Year War in which most of Europe was engaged in fighting for property and naval hegemony on the high seas, the war came to an end. It lasted from 1756 to 1763 and involved every European great power and spanned five continents.
Great Britain now found itself in enormous debt and needed money to pay it off. British "subjects", now living in the thirteen colonies in North America soon would feel the long arm of King George as he painted a target on their backs and marked them for heavy taxes in order to pay his war debt.
At first there was much consternation and vigorous debate among the colonists as to whether the King had the "right" to tax them. These were fledgling colonies but it didn't matter to the King as things proceeded from bad to worse and, finally, open rebellion on Griffin's Wharf in Boston on December 16, 1773 as the colonists boarded the American ship, The Dartmouth" and proceeded to throw the King's tea overboard.

Up to and during this time and until the American Revolution, the colonists were subjected to kidnappings, murder, hanging, assault and ridicule by their British counterparts, not only soldiers and many of whom were active in parliament, business owners, tavern keepers, etc.
Soon the heavy sentiment weighing heavily on the colonists turned into open warfare as they slowly tired of being bayonetted, kidnapped, hung or tortured.
Clandestine meetings were held and whispered talk of "Independence" was heard but always being careful as too many other ears were listening.
Soon this rag tag bunch of colonists, from all walks of life, united in solidarity.
They had had enough.

This is why we celebrate Independence Day here in America. Because our country was founded on the struggle to attain it. And all because a small group of people became fed up with a tyrannical king who kept treating them as chattel. https://www.thefreedictionary.com/chattel
All throughout history there have been bands of men and women who have struggled to set themselves free from oppression.
But the United States of America is and always will be the greatest shining example of what happens when people finally take control of their own lives.
Nobody, no one, no government, no organization, no politician, no media outlet, newspaper, Google or Facebook or Twitter, no corporation, no institution has the right to deny anyone their G-d given right of living their lives as free men and women.
Tomorrow, enjoy the freedom won for you by those brave Americans who dared take a stand for it. For, without their sacrifices, along with those still being made by our military, you and I would not be here.
Bow your head and say a prayer that G-d Almighty will continue to provide the leadership this country needs and that His Protective Might remain over the current President, his family, administration and this great land we call home.
Amen.
