The Circle

I lay snuggled and cozy, resting in the earth waiting for spring.

I blinked and looked up, stirring as I felt the sun's rays penetrating and warming the ground.

I was excited thinking about my spring debut.

When it was time I would shyly but bravely emerge up from the ground and poke my head out.

It would be refreshing to inhale the cool spring air again after a long winter's nap.

My leaves and stem would be the first to make an appearance.

At the end of my stem was a tiny little bud.

I trembled with excitement, listening to the hushed cries of other little flowers.

Then the rain came.

It gently soaked the warm ground and wet our faces.

We giggled.

Finally, we knew it was time for us to leave the safety of our earthly cocoon.

Mustering our strength, we pushed up through the fragrant earth, through a blanket of wet leaves and patches of frost, onward and upward.

If you took the time to stop and listen, you could hear a cacophony of small voices as we mightily labored toward our birth.

A splattering of tiny white star shaped flowers encircled a giant oak.

The mighty oak's furry and lofty head bent down, a quizzical look on his face as he studied these tiny new underlings.

Giving a great sigh of admiration as he lovingly inspected his new charges, the giant raised himself back up to the tops of the other oaks.

There was chatter and giggling and blushes and sighs and splendid bows all over as we acknowledged his approval.

We had made our appearance and were finally home, once again.

This is where we belonged but for a short while.

Our stay would be brief but we would enchant all those who stopped by.

When our brief sojourn was over, we would once again retreat back into the moist earth for another long winter's nap.

And then the Cycle would start all over again.

"Ah, to give humans of this world a little bit of joy, a little bit of pleasure even though our existence (and theirs) may be very brief.

Isn't that what Life's all about, anyway?
